The best of both worlds

Saul Ewing LLP offers clients the best of both worlds: the national reach and sophisticated experience of a large firm and the local connections and value of a small boutique. With nine offices in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, Saul Ewing is a full-service firm that serves businesses throughout the United States and internationally, including recognizable names in corporate America, exciting start-ups and an array of closely held and privately held companies, nonprofits, governmental and educational entities. Saul Ewing attorneys are leaders of, and active participants in, industry associations, which helps them understand both the big picture and specific challenges that affect their clients.

Client service

In the latest Altman Weil survey on law firm responsiveness, Saul Ewing attorneys received high marks. We understand the importance of personal relationships and recognize that face-to-face meetings can offer superior productivity and build trust. To maintain open communication with our clients and continually give them what they want and need, we have developed a Client Service Satisfaction program that solicits client feedback and uses that feedback to improve our service. We are proactive, and have a designated research team to keep up-to-date on relevant news, legislation and reports that impact our clients. Our attorneys regularly attend industry conferences so that they are familiar with the players in their clients’ industries. We also sponsor CLE seminars and provide clients with educational news alerts on topics affecting their businesses.

Proven track record as local counsel

In each of our jurisdictions, our attorneys have meaningful experience and familiarity with the local, state and federal judges and courts. In addition to knowing the personalities and preferences of local judges, we have a strong command of local practices and idiosyncrasies that are not generally known by attorneys outside the jurisdiction. We provide practical assistance with getting answers and handling filings. Time and again, these hometown relationships and immediate access have proven invaluable to our clients, reassuring them that their matters will be in good hands.

When primary counsel are from out of town, we understand that they want and need immediate accessibility and responsiveness. We offer them a full-service office away from home – from conference rooms and computer access, to hotel and restaurant recommendations. Everything they need is at their fingertips. And when they leave town, we make sure to keep them advised of rulings and other case developments as soon as they happen.

Exceptional value - Cost Certainty Commitment

Legal budgets are shrinking.

Clients need experienced lawyers, but also want value.

Cost is
very important.

These are just some of the challenges our clients have been sharing with us recently during our Client Service Satisfaction program interviews. As a result, Saul Ewing has stepped up its already flexible and cost-effective service to become one of the first law firms in the country to standardize and announce several alternative fee arrangements. We call it our Cost Certainty CommitmentSM (“CCC”). The CCC allows us to respond to a client’s cost concerns by tailoring a fee arrangement that suits that client, combining our already efficient staffing with blended rates, flat fees and success fees, as well as other fixed-fee options.

The CCC program gives in-house counsel the peace of mind that their legal needs will be satisfied with measurable value. Our attorneys apply their extensive experience to avoid re-inventing the wheel and instead fully draw upon existing work product and knowledge, and use agreed-upon cost structures intended to help project costs for budgeting purposes.

The response to the CCC program has been overwhelmingly positive. In an article published by Law360, law firm consultant Bruce MacEwen praised Saul Ewing for being so forthright and transparent with its alternative fee offerings.

"By raising the issue first, and so openly, Saul Ewing shows that clients don't have to drag the firm
kicking and screaming into the world of alternative billing," MacEwen said. "I think it's smart."

In the same article, Michael B. Rynowecer, president of the BTI Consulting Group Inc., also credited Saul Ewing:

“Saul Ewing has done a very good job of making the issue front and center,” Rynowecer told
Law360. “It's fairly bold. It breaks the norm,” he said. “It creates a dialogue with clients, and it
controls the topic. It controls the conversation.”

A commitment to diversity

Saul Ewing is committed to building and maintaining a workplace that reflects the increasingly diverse nature of the legal profession and the communities we serve. We view diversity as a defining feature of our professional excellence and we understand that diversity is equally important to our clients. This attention to diversity influences our recruitment, hiring and training practices, and it is continuously enhanced through our participation in various community organizations and programs that are dedicated to promoting diversity in the workplace.

In recognizing that diversity affects all functions, the firm's Diversity Committee includes partners who chair committees on recruitment, hiring, mentoring and professional development, as well as a partner from Saul Ewing's Executive Committee. These key firm leaders work as an integrated team with members of the diversity committee who are partners and associates of various cultural backgrounds. The result of Saul Ewing's approach has been the creation of a dynamic working environment that is embraced by our partners, associates, support staff and clients.
