Saul Ewing’s roots can be traced to John G. Johnson, the most prominent and influential Philadelphia lawyer of the late 19th century. Mr. Johnson believed in giving back to his community. In 1917, Mr. Johnson bequeathed to the citizens of Philadelphia his collection of more than 1,200 paintings, including many masterpieces from European artists. This collection was eventually integrated into the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s own holdings, allowing for a more unified presentation of European art between the 14th and the late 19th century.
Saul Ewing’s long tradition of giving back to the community through contributions to local civic, cultural, and business communities continues today.
