Bernabeo quoted in The Wall Street Journal

"A Sample Can Be Simple and Cheap", The Wall Street Journal

July 4, 2010

Gregory S. Bernabeo, a partner in the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group, was quoted in a July 4, 2010 story in The Wall Street Journal. The article, “A Sample Can Be Simple and Cheap,” discusses how various entrepreneurs began their businesses with a rudimentary sample to show manufacturers how it should look and function. In addition, the article advises testing the prototype and researching its marketability before investing in large quantities to sell. Finally, entrepreneurs should consider filing for a patent with the federal government if they are looking to create and market an original product that could be easily copied. Bernabeo notes that “a patent may be your best barrier to competition,” even though it is typically a long and costly process.
