Benchmark Nominates Saul Ewing for Diversity Award and Maryland Firm of The Year; Saul Ewing Offices in Four States And Nine Attorneys Included in Litigation Guide
(Philadelphia, PA, January 15, 2013) – Saul Ewing LLP is pleased to announce that the firm and its Baltimore, MD office are on the shortlist of nominees for the inaugural U.S. Benchmark Litigation Annual Awards. Saul Ewing offices in four states and nine attorneys also are included in the 2013 edition of Benchmark Litigation, a guide to America’s leading litigation firms and attorneys.
Saul Ewing is one of eight nominees nationwide for Benchmark’s Diversity Firm of the Year Award. Its nomination is based on a submission that focused on the firm’s Women’s Development Initiative (WDI) and follow-up interviews by Benchmark researchers about the WDI and the firm’s many other diversity programs.
Some of the firm’s noteworthy diversity accomplishments this year include being named to MultiCultural Law Magazine’s “Top 100 Law Firms for Women” list, the WDI holding the largest client reception in firm history, launching the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender) Affinity Group and winning the 2012 Firm Diversity Award from the Black Law Students Association at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
The Baltimore, MD office is one of four firms nominated for Maryland State Firm of the Year. Its nomination is based on the annual questionnaire that Saul Ewing submits to Benchmark as well as the results of interviews that Benchmark researchers conduct with litigators and their clients. During these interviews, Benchmark researchers examine recent casework handled by the firms and attorneys and ask sources to offer their professional opinions on litigators practicing within their state.
The same research is used to select firms and attorneys for listing in Benchmark Litigation. Saul Ewing’s office in Baltimore, MD moved up into the “Highly Recommended Local Litigation Firms” category and the firm’s offices in Wilmington, DE; New Jersey and Pennsylvania are recognized as “Recommended Local Litigation Firms” in their respective states.
Six partners are recognized individually as “Local Litigation Stars,” meaning their clients and peers consistently recommend them as reputable and effective litigators. They are:
- Edward J. “Ted” Baines and Harriet E. Cooperman, both for general commercial and insurance, and Charles O. Monk, II for antitrust, bankruptcy and general commercial. All are based in Baltimore, MD.
- Michael S. Gugig for general commercial, insurance and intellectual property in Newark, NJ.
- Joseph F. O’Dea, Jr., and John F. Stoviak, both for general commercial in Philadelphia, PA.
In addition, three partners are recognized as “Future Stars,” meaning clients and peers reference them as litigators who are likely to become “Local Litigation Stars” in future editions of the guide. Receiving this honor are: Cathleen M. Devlin and James A. Keller, both in Philadelphia, PA, and Devin J. Doolan, Jr., in Washington, DC.
The winners of the Annual Awards will be announced January 31, 2013 at a banquet in New York.
