Amy L. Piccola
Amy Piccola advises institutions of higher education on matters involving issues of compliance, policy and liability, particularly with regard to student conduct matters, Title IX and other civil rights and discrimination statutes, and the Clery Act. Her experience includes handling litigation, responding to U.S. Department of Education and OCR investigations and complaints, and conducting internal fact-finding investigations and audits on behalf of colleges and universities. Amy also provides proactive assistance, including drafting student codes of conduct, handbooks and policies on issues ranging from sexual harassment and hazing to cyberbullying and program and department operations. Beyond these issues, Amy advises higher education clients on the developing trend of esports on campus. Her experience includes reviewing esports league participation agreements, advising institutions on participation in esports tournaments, spotting legal risks, and working through the mechanics of launching collegiate esports programs.
Amy's knowledge of risk management also stems from her experience representing insurers and reinsurers in matters related to bad faith, failure to pay and breach of contract.
In addition to her bar admission in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Amy is barred in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
