Erik J. VanderWeyden focuses his practice on property assessment law, ad valorem taxation and real estate law as a member of the firm's Real Estate Group. Erik represents property owners and taxpayers in real estate tax assessment proceedings in Cook County and throughout the state of Illinois. He frequently advises real estate developers on assessment issues and Cook County-area incentives for industrial and commercial properties. Erik has significant experience in court and administrative adjudication of tax exempt status for charitable and religious organizations before the Illinois Department of Revenue and local Boards of Review.

Erik also represents clients in tax controversies before a variety of different tax authorities, including the Internal Revenue Service and the Illinois Department of Revenue.

Erik represents both businesses and individuals in income tax, sales tax, and penalty controversies, and in IRS audits, and liability settlement negotiations. Erik also advises clients on cybersecurity and data privacy issues.
