Eva J. Helmerhorst

Eva Helmerhorst brings extensive experience as a scientific researcher in the life sciences to her work drafting and prosecuting patents and providing opinions to help clients develop global patent strategies. With a Ph.D. in oral biochemistry, she has participated in research focusing on both biotechnology and organic chemistry including antibody technologies, gene editing, mass spectrometry and small molecules. Eva also analyzes invention disclosures and provides patentability analyses and prior art assessments. In addition, she conducts IP clearance searches and freedom-to-operate analyses to support client product development efforts.

Before Eva was a technical specialist in the legal field, she was an associate professor and post-doctoral researcher at Boston University. During her time in academia and research, she authored more than 75 publications in peer-reviewed journals. She was also the principal investigator on four NIH grants and the recipient of continuous research funding from NIH from 2007 to 2017, and she was an ad hoc member of NIH study sections on gastrointestinal mucosal pathobiology and enabling bioanalytical and imaging technologies. She has also collaborated with Nobel Laureate Prof. John Walker on research for the  Medical Research Council in Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
