Matthew Veenstra assists clients with commercial litigation matters, including shareholder disputes and disputes involving contracts such as noncompetition agreements and insurance policies. He also has extensive experience in financial services litigation, including fraud and lender liability claims. Matt has handled lawsuits from initial pleadings through dispositive motions and trial.

Before he began his legal career, Matt served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a psychological operations specialist and a Korean linguist, and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2004-2005.

Experience

Representative Matters:

Food and Agribusiness Litigation
A major egg-producing company in a week-long bench trial over an alleged breach of an $8.9 million custom egg drier contract and a claim of $3.9 million in lost profits. The court denied the manufacturer's request for lost profits in its entirety. Argued on appeal and the trial court ruling awarding the client a refund of $2.7 million, which was affirmed.
A pork processor in defense against a $40 million wrongful termination claim by a former distributor. The client prevailed after a nine-day arbitration with a ruling in the client's favor on liability and an award of damages to the client in the amount of $1.9 million.
A major egg-producing company seeking recovery under a $7 million pollution policy for damages incurred as a result of an avian influenza outbreak. Obtained a favorable confidential settlement on the eve of a jury trial.
Financial Markets Litigation
A federal home loan bank in a fraud lawsuit against investment banks and rating agencies involving mortgage-backed securities. Obtained favorable confidential settlements against all defendants.
A group of individual investors in a fraud lawsuit against a Madoff feeder fund. Obtained favorable confidential settlement after prevailing on defendants' motion for summary judgment.
