Robert Butters has more than 35 years of experience representing companies and membership organizations that maintain database compilations of information and content licensed for use by third party licensees. Examples of such clients include: real estate data aggregators; medical specialty boards; health information managers; foundations; and universities and their alumni associations. Robert represents clients in the protection and monetization of databases compilations through the design of intellectual property rights protection programs, negotiation and drafting database software and trademark licensing agreements, affinity agreements, and website terms of use and privacy policies. Robert also represents clients in matters involving electronic commerce, antitrust, civil rights and equal housing opportunity, professional and fiduciary liability, administrative law, professional licensing, and the acquisition, protection and licensing of proprietary rights in computer software applications.

From 1986 to 1992, Robert served as Deputy General Counsel to the National Association of REALTORS®, the world's largest professional association. He has also served as an antitrust trial attorney in the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Competition in Washington, D.C. Robert also assists his professional association clients in the organization and operation of affiliated foundations and charitable and tax-exempt organizations. Robert has delivered numerous speeches and presentations at seminars sponsored by professional associations and government agencies on legal and liability issues facing the real estate and related industries with particular emphasis on electronic commerce matters.
