Arnstein & Lehr Chicago Partner E. Jason Tremblay presented “Five Things Every Business Owner Must Konw if They Have Employees” before the Chamber of Commerce of batavia, a Chicago suburb, on May 14, 2013. The seminar addressed many common misconceptions and mistakes business owners make in managing their workforce. Mr. Tremblay then provided the attendees with steps to identify and avoid those common mistakes.

On Wednesday, April 17, Arnstein & Lehr Chicago Partner Jason Tremblay presented a seminar to an audience of more than 60 accountants affiliated with the Illinois CPA Society – O’Hare Chapter entitled “Common Employment Law Mistakes for Illinois Employers and How to Avoid Them.” Mr. Tremblay spoke at length about wage and hour, independent contractor and trade secrets issues relevant to Illinois employers, as well as strategies to help Illinois employers protect their assets and avoid employment related liability.

Partner Steven N. Malitz successfully represented a business in litigation where a terminated employee began soliciting and taking customers in violation of his employment agreement.

The company hired a key employee to service its largest customers. The employee had access to the company’s confidential information, including its customer list, pricing structure and customer requirements. The employee signed an employment agreement promising not to solicit company customers or compete.

Arnstein & Lehr Chicago Partner Jason Tremblay presented at a seminar on October 17, sponsored by Corkill Insurance, at the Sheraton Elk Grove Village. The seminar was titled “Changes in Illinois Workers’ Compensation Laws: New Opportunities for Employers.” Mr. Tremblay discussed the topic of best practices for legally handling workers’ compensation situations. Approximately 50 people attended, consisting of HR professionals, safety compliance officers, business owners and insurance adjusters.

Jason Tremblay was a guest lecturer on September 26 for a Robert Morris University graduate school business class, titled “Legal Issues in Human Resource Management.” Mr. Tremblay discussed the issue of how to reasonably accommodate disabled employees under the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as the issue of accommodating religious beliefs in the workplace under Title VII.
