The Business of Being a Physician

Thomas Conley, Counsel in the Firm's Health Care, Practice gave an informative presentation examining the business of being a physician, hosted by Benton Franklin County Medical Society.

Physician dissatisfaction and burnout with the practice of medicine increase yearly and are exacerbated by the rapid changes in practice structures and demands. No longer is care largely delivered by solo and small physician practices. Instead, hospitals and large practices managed by practice management companies employ physicians and control their delivery of care to patients. This presentation examined and compared the legal, economic and business considerations of practicing in solo, small, large and hospital practice settings, including the advantages, disadvantages, risks and rewards of each.
