MIAMI [May 20, 2016] – Arnstein & Lehr LLP hosted the 2nd Annual Advanced EB-5 Seminar in Miami on May 20. The full-day seminar featured 28 panelists, including event co-chairs and partners, Ronald Fieldstone, Julián Montero, Jay Rosen, who each moderated panels, and additionally, partner Anthony Kang and associate Misty Allen, a real estate/finance expert. Panel topics included "EB-5 Fundamentals," "EB-5 Project Case Study," "Administering the EB-5 Loan Transaction," "EB-5 Legislative Update," "Marketing EB-5 Projects in China," and "Marketing EB-5 Projects Outside China." Aside from “EB-5 Fundamentals,” all content was considered to be at an advanced level.

The event gained media attention and was featured in a follow-up Law360 article, “Lawyers Spry About EB-5 Prospects Despite Jay Peak Fraud.” In the article, the Jay Peak project was cited as “one failure among many successes,” and the panelists were optimistic about growing EB-5 opportunities.

“On a relative basis,” Mr. Fieldstone stated, “the EB-5 failures haven’t been that great, but because it’s government sponsored, it gets a lot of publicity.”

The Daily Business Review out of Miami also covered the event and ran the article, "SEC Case Pushes EB-5 Focus to Oversight, Compliance."

Over 100 people attended the advanced EB-5 seminar, which took place at the Hilton Miami Downtown. Those in attendance included several law students from local schools interested in the educational component in addition to former U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia, who informed attendees that the upcoming Congress will handle restructuring an immigration bill that will include an EB-5 program. In addition to Arnstein & Lehr, sponsors included Gold Coast Florida Regional Center, NES Financial Services, Paramount Miami Worldcenter, QueensFort Capital Corporation, Signature Bank, and Wright Johnson. The 2017 seminar is set to be held in Chicago.
