Evan Gotlob Brings His Perspective as a Former Federal Prosecutor to Saul Ewing’s White Collar & Government Enforcement Practice

Published

BOSTON, MA (April 12, 2023) – In joining Saul Ewing as a new partner, Evan Gotlob will draw on his experience as a former Assistant U.S. Attorney to represent clients who are facing government investigations and enforcement actions involving white collar crimes. He is resident in the Boston office, and will also work out of the New York and Philadelphia offices.

Evan’s work as a federal prosecutor who handled public corruption and white collar investigations positions him to provide clients with guidance on how to interact effectively with federal law enforcement and regulatory agencies when their transactions are reviewed or they are negatively affected by the business practices of others. His experience relates to cases involving the U.S. Department of Justice, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and state Attorney General Offices.

Should an enforcement action lead to criminal or civil charges, Evan is a seasoned trial lawyer who is well-equipped to develop and execute on trial strategies in line with the client’s goals for a successful resolution of the case. Evan also represents clients when they are facing governmental and internal corporate investigations, and he is also well-equipped to provide clients with insights on compliance issues in connection with internal investigations, which can help avoid government scrutiny.

Some of his previous work in the U.S. Attorney’s Office included prosecuting:

  • A prominent accountant who was helping a member of the Massachusetts State Senate defraud the government for multiple years. The case resulted in a conviction.
  • A doctor who was convicted of drug dealing resulting in death, running a drug mill out of his office and money laundering and tax fraud charges. Evan received the 2020 Director’s Award for Outstanding Performance by an Assistant U.S. Attorney for this groundbreaking case.
  • A financial advisor who defrauded more than 500 hundred victims during a 15-year period, causing more than $4 million in losses.
  • A gas company resulting in the largest criminal settlement against a utility provider in U.S. history.

“Evan’s record as a career prosecutor, both as an Assistant District Attorney in Queens County, New York and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, in handling complex, high-stakes cases and investigations has allowed him to work closely with judges, defense counsel, and fellow prosecutors across the country,” said Joseph D. Lipchitz, the firm’s Boston Office Managing Partner. “As Evan joins the firm’s White Collar & Government Enforcement Practice, we are thrilled that he will deploy his qualities of tenacity, judgment, and creativity on behalf Saul Ewing’s clients. His talents augment the firm’s already deep experience with legal matters for the financial services, higher education and health care industries.”

Mr. Gotlob earned his J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law. He also has an M.B.A. in Finance from Hofstra’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business, as well as a B.A. from Binghamton University, a State University of New York school.
