Peter Murphy brings significant experience to his new role as a partner in Saul Ewing’s Cannabis Law Practice, including serving as the chief legal officer for a cannabis operator with operations in cultivation, manufacturing and retail sales spanning three states. He is resident in the firm’s Wilmington office.

Mr. Murphy advises cannabis industry clients on regulatory compliance, licensing applications, and corporate transactions to support the launch and growth of their business. His experience includes providing legal guidance to these clients on how evolving cannabis regulations affect  their operations, multistate business formation, fundraising, writing applications and seeking competitive licensing from governments, and governance issues.

Some of Peter’s key matters include serving as the lead writer for winning applications for:

  • A cannabis grower/processor license in Pennsylvania.
  • A vertically-integrated cannabis license in Delaware.
  • A cannabis product manufacturing license in Missouri.

“We are thrilled to welcome Peter to Saul Ewing,” said Jonathan Havens, co-chair of the firm’s Cannabis Law Practice.  “Due to his prior work both in house for a cannabis operator and in private practice with another law firm where he was co-chair of and lead application writer for the Regulated Substances Practice, Peter has a real-world understanding of the business and regulatory challenges that cannabis companies face. Not only has he drafted numerous successful license applications, but he has also advised C-suite executives on legal matters and issues ranging from regulatory compliance to business strategy to mergers and acquisitions to reorganization, and many things in between.”

Mr. Murphy earned his J.D. from Widener University Delaware Law School and his B.S. from Indiana University
