Pat Nugent represents a variety of clients, including institutions of higher education, energy companies and insurers, in regulatory matters and disputes. Pat advises clients pre-suit to minimize the risks of litigation and, when litigation arises, devises and implements litigation strategies to help address each client’s unique objectives.

Pat has represented clients in matters involving a broad array of contractual, tort, statutory and constitutional issues – before agencies, trial courts and appellate courts alike – including: due process, takings, the Clean Water Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Natural Gas Act, Title VI, Title IX, Section 1981 and other civil rights and anti-discrimination statutes. 

In addition to his representation of clients in trial courts and administrative agencies, Pat frequently represents clients in complex, high-stakes appeals, and has handled numerous appeals before the Second, Third, Sixth and District of Columbia Circuits, as well as certiorari-stage proceedings before the Supreme Court of the United States. Pat’s appellate experience enhances his ability to provide strategic counsel to clients when crafting strategies that align with their goals throughout the various phases of litigation.
