Bruce D. Armon, a Partner and member of the Health Law and Life Sciences practice groups, was quoted in this Medical Staff Briefing article that provides tips to physicians and medical staff leaders on how to develop agreements that benefit hospitals, physicians and patients.

“Go easy on practice restrictions for employed and contracted physicians,” said Armon. “A hospital might restrict where its employed physicians can practice or what types of entrepreneurial activities they can become involved in through stringent non-compete clauses.”

Armon also advises leaders of hospitals and physician practices to be mindufl of the legal pitfalls associated with joint ventures. “Hospitals need to be aware of anti-kickback statutes when creating joint ventures with physicians. Hospitals should always check with their legal counsel to determine whether a proposed business relationship falls into a safe harbor.”
