Joel Burcat, chair of Saul Ewing’s Oil and Gas Practice, is quoted in this article in Law 360 about the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s two upcoming appeal hearings in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

The article references two major cases, Robinson Township v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Environmental Defense Foundation’s v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Both appeals will decide who should be responsible for reviewing local drilling rules and the proper standards for deciding environmental challenges. Additionally, the article notes that both appeals are significant because of the addition of three new justices who were appointed to the bench in January.

“I think everyone in Pennsylvania who is concerned about these issues has been waiting to see how the new justices will be responding to these environment and oil-and-gas cases,” Joel said. “It’s going to be very important and very significant for Pennsylvania how they work out these issues.”
