Facebook's $5B Fine Would Set Record But Not Quiet Critics

Facebook reportedly agreed to pay the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) a $5 billion fine over privacy violations in July 2019. April Doss, chair of the Firm's Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice, commented on the gravity of this situation in Law360.

"Five billion dollars might not be enough to feel truly punitive to Facebook, but $5 billion is real money and sets the bar in a completely different place," said April. "If the FTC finds it necessary to levy greater fines in the future against platform providers, they've already laid the groundwork for it."
