"Defamation lawsuit can go forward, but will it succeed?", Maryland Daily Record

Robin D. Leone, an associate in the Litigation Department who focuses on media law, was quoted in this story on the $2 million defamation lawsuit the Republican candidate for clerk of the Baltimore County Circuit Court filed against his Democratic rival. In the suit, Rick Reinhardt alleges that Julie Ensor implicated him in being responsible for the disappearance and destruction of 200 of her campaign signs, and seeks $1 million in compensatory damages and $1 million in punitive damages. Ms. Leone noted that Reinhardt's challenge will be proving he was defamed by showing Ensor’s statement was false and that she intended to harm him when talking to police. She said, “It’s a higher burden for the plaintiff to prove that there was some sort of actual malice.”
