Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Since the tragic death of George Floyd, the ensuing protests and national conversation about racial inequalities have put a critical spotlight on the painful state of racism in our country in 2020. In many ways, it has been a wake-up call for the legal profession. Diversity and inclusion have been at the core of our Firm's culture and business strategy for many years and they are a key component of our Firm Vision for the future. This entails supporting one another by standing together against injustice, listening to each other, learning from one another and deepening our diversity and inclusion acumen.

Over the years, through retreats, training and discussions, we have broadened our understanding of concepts such as implicit bias, cultural competency and strategies for improved communication in the workplace. But we understand that listening and learning is simply a starting point. We have also taken proactive steps to make our Firm a diverse and inclusive workplace for everyone, including joining the Mansfield Challenge and obtaining Mansfield Plus Certification which was earned by only 51 law firms nationwide in 2019.

In the wake of recent events we are conducting office-based forums to discuss how these matters are impacting our community, both inside and outside our offices.  We have assembled a resource page for those who want to learn more about these complicated issues. Additionally, our Diversity and Inclusion and Pro Bono Committees are partnering to help interested colleagues use their talents to fight for racial equality, against police brutality and to make a positive difference in our world. To that end, our Firm has joined the Law Firm Anti-Racism Alliance, a coalition of over 240 law firms formed to promote social justice and racial equity. LFAA is heavily focused on pro bono efforts, with acknowledgment of the importance of diversity, inclusion and equity efforts needed within law firms themselves.

Racial inequality and social injustice are complicated issues that will require determined focus and a sustained effort. Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr will continue to build upon our strong commitment to diversity and inclusion to promote positive change within and beyond the communities that we serve.
