Saul Ewing Partner Comments on Suits Against Hospitals

"Lawsuits Against Hospitals Spiking", The Philadelphia Inquirer

August 8, 2004

John B. Reiss, a Partner and Co-Chair of Saul Ewing's Health Law Practice Group, was quoted in this article discussing how in recent months, more than 350 hospitals have been sued in state and federal courts for allegedly overcharging uninsured patients and using aggressive tactics to collect the bills.

"It is a form of extortion, because if you can get a hospital in front of their community with tales of what most people would think is outrageous behavior, you could get them to settle," said John Reiss. "I don't think they did anything illegal."
