In early April 2019, the IRS and the Treasury Department issued new regulations on Opportunity Zones. David Shapiro, chair of the Firm’s Tax Practice, and Ronnie Fieldstone, chair of the Firm’s Opportunity Zones and Qualified Opportunity Funds Practice, discuss their thoughts in this AccountingToday article.

"The really big piece that I think a lot of investors are focused on is not just this deferral, but the elimination of capital gains on appreciation," said David.

Ronnie added: "When we deal with our clients as professionals, a lot of them are very excited because they find out that their asset that they own is an OZ asset."
