Zemel Comments on Trend of Religious Institutions Leasing Space in Malls
Some Retail Landlords Put Faith in Houses of Worship

Franklin Zemel, a partner in the Firm’s Religious Land Use Practice, is quoted in Shopping Centers Today magazine discussing the increase of religious institutions leasing space in malls.

"Cities are allowed to zone different areas how they want, and if a property is not zoned for public assemblies, then religious assemblies won’t be permitted," said Franklin. "But religious assemblies cannot be treated on less than equal terms of nonreligious assemblies in shopping centers."
