Baltimore Energy Lawyers Win Victory for U.S. Wind
Saul Ewing attorneys Earl Adams, Jr. and Thomas K. Prevas won a significant victory on behalf of firm client, U.S. Wind, Inc., before the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) that was featured in this article in Law 360. The matter involved a first-in-the nation competitive application process, whereby interested developers petitioned for offshore wind energy credits (ORECs) to help in the financing of offshore wind farms. The Saul Ewing team advised in the preparation of U.S. Wind’s application and defended it during 13 days of evidentiary hearings and two public hearings. The Law 360 article reports that the PSC awarded U.S. Wind the full amount of ORECs it requested to develop a 248MW wind farm off the cost of Ocean City, Md.
In response to the PSC’s Order, Adams said, “By awarding U.S. Wind the maximum number of ORECs, the PSC affirmed its confidence in the company’s ability to develop the largest offshore wind project in the U.S.” Salvo Vitale, General Counsel for U.S. Wind, said of the decision, “We are thrilled that the commission recognized the importance of this project in establishing Maryland as an offshore wind hub, and are grateful for Saul Ewing’s help in ably guiding us through the approval process.”
