Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr LLP today announced that Jeffrey Robbins and Joseph Lipchitz have joined the Firm as partners resident in the Boston office. The attorneys will establish the Firm's national First Amendment & Media Practice, as well as strengthen its Higher Education and Health Care Practices.

Mr. Robbins and Mr. Lipchitz are civil litigators with more than 50 years of combined experience protecting businesses in high-stakes legal disputes nationwide. Their work as trial lawyers includes cases involving fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and employment and intra-corporate matters for companies in health care, higher education and many other industries. They also advise on compliance with state and federal law, and they help protect the interests and reputations of clients facing regulatory and criminal investigations, subpoenas and media scrutiny, including claims involving defamation and the First Amendment.

Mr. Robbins is recognized by Chambers USA as a one of "America's Leading Lawyers for First Amendment Litigation" in the legal directory's national rankings. Together with Mr. Lipchitz, they won summary judgment for clients in two seminal defamation cases affirmed by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. In addition to media-related entities and well-known personalities, they represent companies and non-profits in this work.

Mr. Robbins' work is also informed by his experience as a former assistant US attorney for the District of Massachusetts and roles as counsel to congressional committees. In 1997, Mr. Robbins was appointed deputy chief counsel for the Democratic minority of the US Senate Governmental Affairs Committee Special Investigation into campaign fundraising practices during the 1996 presidential election. He also served as chief counsel for the Democratic minority of the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations into areas that included Medicare fraud and governmental waste and abuse.

Mr. Lipchitz draws on his past experience trying felony cases as a military prosecutor in the US Army Judge Advocate General's Corps in his civil litigation work for corporate clients. He is named on The Best Lawyers in America list for commercial litigation. He also represents well-known law firms and partners in high-stakes legal malpractice cases, and he has experience with disputes involving intellectual property, licensing, patents and trade secrets.

"We are thrilled to be joining Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr's Boston office," said Mr. Robbins. "The Firm has established strong roots in Boston, creating a talented, collegial team of attorneys serving numerous industries from real estate to higher education."

Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr entered the Boston market after merging with law firm Dionne & Gass LLP in 2011. Over the past seven years, the Firm has continued to expand its presence in Boston, most recently welcoming Steven P. Eichel as a partner in the Business and Finance and Tax Practices. The Firm’s Boston team focuses on real estate, finance and business law, serving clients in numerous industries on a national and local basis.

"Jeff and Joe bring decades of litigation experience in complex commercial matters, including the swiftly-evolving areas of media and First Amendment law," commented Sally Michael, managing partner of the Boston office. "The combination of Saul Ewing with Arnstein & Lehr has provided us with an expanded platform that is ideal for meeting the needs of our clients.  We welcome Jeff and Joe as our partners in Boston.  We look forward to continuing to grow the Boston office by building on the excellent team we have in place serving our clients in all areas of commercial practice."

Mr. Robbins and Mr. Lipchitz know the Boston market well, having spent their entire careers at Mintz Levin before joining Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr.

Mr. Robbins is a 1978 graduate of Brown University, and a 1982 graduate, cum laude, of the Boston University School of Law. Mr. Lipchitz received his B.A., cum laude, from Gettysburg College and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School.
