Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr Further Strengthens its K-12 and Higher Education Practices With Addition of Kathryn Beaumont Murphy
Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr LLP today announced that Kathryn Beaumont Murphy has joined the firm as counsel in the K-12 and Higher Education Practices. Ms. Murphy is resident in the Philadelphia office.
Ms. Murphy advises educational institutions, including independent K-12 schools, colleges and universities, on legal and risk management matters. Prior to joining the firm, she was in-house counsel and compliance manager for an independent K-12 school. Her work there included counseling senior administrators, as well as the board of directors, on issues affecting the day-to-day and long-term management of the school. Ms. Murphy advised on student and employee issues, and negotiated and drafted third-party contracts, including general vendor and procurement, real estate and software agreements. She also spearheaded the institution’s analysis of and response to new global data privacy regulations (GDPR) and created new internal policies related to intellectual property and study abroad/travel. She counseled the school on general nonprofit governance and industry compliance, including Title IX-related issues and investigations. Ms. Murphy also has experience advising colleges, universities, schools and other nonprofits in private practice
"We are pleased Kathryn has joined Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr," said James A. Keller, co-chair of the firm's K-12 and Higher Education Practices. "She has a deep appreciation for the scope of legal and risk management challenges that K-12 schools face on issues ranging from student discipline, bullying prevention and enrollment to drafting and implementing compliance policies and procedures. Her experience as in-house counsel to an independent K-12 school is especially valuable."
Ms. Murphy earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston College Law School. She also has an M.S. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a B.A. from Princeton University.
