Saul Ewing Strengthens Its Tax Capabilities with Addition of David G. Shapiro

(Philadelphia, PA, September 18, 2014) — Saul Ewing LLP, a full service law firm with more than 260 lawyers in 11 East Coast offices, is proud to announce that David G. Shapiro has joined the firm as a partner in the Tax and Business and Finance practices. He will be resident in the firm’s Philadelphia, PA office.

Mr. Shapiro is an international tax attorney who focuses on business tax planning, including domestic and cross-border expansion, joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, and financing transactions.  He represents businesses and their owners in international and domestic tax planning.

Mr. Shapiro’s practice includes entity formation and structure planning, securities offerings and hybrid financings, joint ventures, and strategic acquisitions and dispositions. Where appropriate, he works with counsel in other jurisdictions to develop efficient cross-border transactional and operational structures. He also assists clients in preparing for and defending against audits and other contested matters.

Prior to joining Saul Ewing, Mr. Shapiro founded and was Managing Member of Shapiro Tax Law LLC, and prior to that, he was a tax partner of Dechert LLP.  He was named to the 2012-2014 International Who’s Who of Corporate Tax Lawyers; and named a Lawyer on the Fast Track by the Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly in 2009. He also has been listed on the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Stars list from 2005 to 2008 and again in 2011 and 2012. Mr. Shapiro is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Shapiro serves as Chair of the American Bar Association’s Tax Section Committee on US Activities of Foreigners and Tax Treaties and is an Adjunct Professor of  Taxation in the Graduate Tax Program, Villanova University School of Law.

He earned his law degree, cum laude, from Duke University School of Law in 1998 and his bachelor’s degree from Yale University in 1995.
