Mayo Collaborative Services v. Prometheus Laboratories, Inc.

Gianna J. Arnold, chair of Patent Services and co-chair of the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice, and Mark D. Simpson, a partner in the Intellectual Property &Technology Practice, contributed a chapter for the 2013 edition of Top 20 Food and Drug Cases, 2012 & Cases to Watch.

The chapter examines the U.S. Supreme Court’s March 2012 decision that the process patent that Prometheus Laboratories had obtained for correlations between blood test results and patient health is not eligible for a patent because it incorporates laws of nature.
