Partner Joel R. Burcat, chair of the Oil and Gas Practice, has co-edited The Law of Oil and Gas in Pennsylvania with Stephen W. Saunders, of Scranton, Pa.-based Saunders Law.

Published by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute Press, the reference book is the definitive guide to oil and gas law in the Commonwealth.  It dissects both title and regulatory issues relating to oil and gas. This examination is made from the perspectives of the oil and gas industry, land and mineral rights owners and the interested public.  Pennsylvania’s law of oil and gas continues to evolve and courts are grappling with the application of new technologies and concepts that collide with case law developed in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The book also contains detailed chapters on the history of oil and gas law in Pennsylvania and the geology and practice of oil and gas drilling.  This reference is available both in book and CD-ROM format.  Copies of the treatise may be purchased through the Pennsylvania Bar Institute here.

Elizabeth U. Witmer, another partner in the Oil and Gas practice, wrote the chapter on pipeline regulation.
