What Employment Lawyers and Their Clients Need to Know about Retirement Plans
2014 Edition

Robert H. Louis, co-chair of the Personal Wealth, Estates and Trusts Practice, wrote this chapter that provides an overview of the wide range of retirement plans that employees and employers can choose from to prepare for their life post-retirement.

The chapter also urges employees and employers to educate themselves and to stay current with new regulations and guidelines for retirement plans, as well as their taxes and distribution requirements.  Mr. Louis also discourages employers from handling retirement and pension plans on their own, noting that failing to comply with complex reporting and disclosure obligations often results in steep penalties.
