July 6, 2009 - Saul Ewing LLP, #181 in the Am Law 200, has been ranked #68 in The American Lawyer's annual pro bono chart.
The rankings consider equally the average number of pro bono hours per lawyer and the percentage of lawyers who perform more than 20 hours of pro bono work a year. At Saul Ewing, the average number of pro bono hours per lawyer is 44.2, and 67.1 percent of its attorneys give more than 20 pro bono hours annually.
The Firm was recognized for its pro bono work on behalf of a Gulf War veteran and commercial pilot who converted to Islam and was later placed on a no-fly list, which resulted in a job suspension. Amy C. Foerster, a member of the Litigation Department, sued the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies on behalf of the pilot, who was allowed to return to work two weeks later.
