California’s plastic packaging law, Senate Bill 54, now is in effect, meaning that deadlines, fees and regulatory enforcement loom for companies.
The extended producer responsibility (EPR) law regulates plastic packaging in the state and is reshaping how companies design, finance and manage their plastic packaging in the country’s largest consumer market. For those companies that have been proactive on S.B. 54 compliance, this new reality is not surprising; for those companies that have been inactive or have chosen to ignore the law, a harsh reality is on the horizon.
