BOSTON, (NOVEMBER 12, 2024) – Aloke Chakravarty, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney who investigated and successfully convicted the Boston Marathon bomber, is returning to his legal roots in Boston, where he has joined the national law firm Saul Ewing. Mr. Chakravarty brings more than two decades of experience as a former state, federal and international prosecutor and trial lawyer to his role as a partner in the firm’s practices in white collar law and government enforcement and cybersecurity and data privacy.
“We are thrilled to welcome Al back to Boston from his recent work developing a private practice in the Western United States in all the areas of the law where he will now work with Saul Ewing,” said Boston Office Managing Partner Joseph Lipchitz. “Through his past work for the Department of Justice in Boston and the Massachusetts Attorney General, Al is well known not only in Boston legal circles but in the wider community for the many high-profile cases he handled. Over the past few years, Saul Ewing’s Boston office has developed a reputation for handling complex, high-stakes litigation for clients across the country. This makes his move here a natural fit.”
Mr. Chakravarty is a nationally recognized investigations and white collar defense lawyer. He has experience across industries, including higher education, sports and entertainment, high technology, cryptocurrency and financial technology, and life sciences and health care. His capabilities include government engagement and protecting and defending organizations and individuals from issues that are enforced by federal and state agencies, including regulatory and compliance issues, whistleblower complaints, national security concerns, allegations of anti-competitive behavior, executive or employee malfeasance, insider threats and a variety of criminal allegations such as fraud and corruption.
“Saul Ewing has a strong reputation for bringing together not only great lawyers but great people. Al certainly is both,” said White Collar and Government Enforcement Practice Chair Justin Danilewitz. “Al is thoughtful, deliberative and collaborative—traits that mesh perfectly with the firm’s commitment to bringing together smart, nimble lawyers who are committed to working together across practice areas to provide clients with creative solutions to their most significant legal challenges.”
Mr. Chakravarty’s legal background also includes stints as an Assistant Attorney General and Assistant District Attorney in Massachusetts, an Assistant General Counsel for the FBI, an attorney-advisor at DOJ and a war crimes prosecutor at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He has also been recognized by the Directors of the FBI and ICE, among others.
Building on his cyber and computer forensic experience at the FBI and DOJ, Mr. Chakravarty is a certified information privacy professional in the United States (CIPP/US) and leverages his investigative skills to counsel clients on cybersecurity risk management and data privacy and other critical cyber-incidents.
