Jesse L. Krohn
Primary Office
Overview

Jesse Krohn draws on her past work as an assistant general counsel for a small private college and an associate director in the civil rights compliance office of a large university to advise institutions of higher education on legal matters with a positive, solutions-oriented approach.

Jesse's experience includes evaluating complaints and conducting investigations of claims of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation.

She handles student, faculty, and employee matters involving civil rights laws such as Title VII, Title IX, Title VI, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and state and local civil rights laws. When these claims cannot be resolved through mediation and other forms of conflict resolution, she represents clients in litigation.

In addition to her litigation work, Jesse counsels college and university administrators on matters of student, faculty, and staff rights and discipline. She develops, revises, and interprets policies, advises on their fair application, and provides training to help management with implementation and minimize risks. She often works closely with personnel such as Title IX Coordinators, ADA/Section 504 Coordinators, and human resources professionals to problem solve in the moment, and to proactively identify and address persistent issues.

Jesse also advises clients on transactional matters affecting various administrative and academic departments. Her experience includes drafting and reviewing:

  • memorandums of understanding and letters of intent for academic collaboration, affiliation, articulation, and exchange programs
  • sponsored research and grants with private and governmental entities
  • facilities use and rental agreements
  • gift and donor agreements
  • non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements
  • employment/appointment contracts

Jesse first developed her skills as a litigator from serving as a Skadden Fellow and then later working as a staff attorney for Philadelphia Legal Assistance, which provides free legal services to low-income Philadelphians. She was also a judicial clerk for the Honorable Ellen L. Hollander in U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
