Overview

Veronica McCarty is a litigator who represents inventors and companies in intellectual property disputes, particularly for inventions involving computing and biopharmaceutical technologies, as well as medical devices.

Veronica works on patent trials, including on ANDA bench trials, and she assists clients with mediation and settlement negotiations. In addition to courtroom work, her practice includes filing complaints, preparing infringement and invalidity charts, and handling discovery, motions, claim construction, and lay and expert witness depositions and deposition preparation. She also handles hearings, summary judgment and Daubert motions, and motions in limine.

Veronica also advises clients on managing their patent portfolios, including implementing licensing programs and performing pre-suit diligence and target research for patent litigation. When infringement and invalidity contentions arise, she handles the related litigation.

In addition to her patent litigation practice, Veronica also works on copyright matters and contract analysis and negotiations relating to trademarks.

While in law school, Veronica was an extern at a major pharmaceutical company, where she performed legal research and drafted legal memos on intellectual property law, including Hatch-Waxman, §112 written description and §103 obviousness issues. She participated in calls about national and international IP litigation strategy and drafted life science patent claims and terminal disclosures. She was also a summer clerk for the Honorable G. Michael Green in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas.

Veronica’s understanding of some of the scientific issues that arise in her legal work is informed by knowledge she gained earning a bachelor’s degree in biology and working as an undergraduate research assistant in the Department of Virology at the University of Pennsylvania.
