Carmen Contreras-Martinez concentrates her practice in commercial litigation, representing clients in federal and state courts in diverse matters including commercial contract disputes, partnership and shareholder disputes, and general commercial disputes. Prior to joining the firm, she was counsel for some of the largest class action and litigation matters in South Florida, such as representing doctors and medical societies against 10 HMO's in the nation's largest and most successful class-action lawsuit against the managed care industry.
Carmen also handles federal receivership work, having served as counsel for court-appointed receivers, including the receiver for one of the nation's largest viatical settlement companies; the receiver for a large consortium and its related entities, which involved a $68 million Ponzi scheme; and the receiver for a vacations corporation and its affiliates involved in a multimillion-dollar consumer fraud scheme. As trial counsel for the above-mentioned consortium receiver, Ms. Contreras-Martinez obtained multimillion-dollar judgments on behalf of her client and to the benefit of the fraud victims.
While attending law school, Carmen was a business executive for Citicorp in New York City. She was an assistant vice president and an authorized commercial lender.
