Carmen Contreras-Martinez represents corporate clients who are involved in commercial disputes or facing financial difficulties that require them to restructure or file for bankruptcy. The dual nature of her practice as a trial lawyer and bankruptcy attorney also positions her to handle cases where unresolved issues connected to contracts, disagreements involving business partners and shareholders, or other matters, may push clients to consider bankruptcy proceedings. Her experience includes representations in both state and federal courts, including U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Carmen has extensive experience handling litigation involving real estate and disputes between businesses. Over the course of her career, she has also been counsel for some of the largest class action and litigation matters in South Florida, such as representing doctors and medical societies against 10 HMOs in one of the nation's largest class-action lawsuits against the managed care industry.
Carmen focuses her bankruptcy work on claims involving Chapter 11, including representing secured lenders, such as investment groups and banks, and helping secured creditors assert their rights. She also serves as counsel for court-appointed receivers. In addition, Carmen helps international insolvency trustees with assets in the United States to file related bankruptcy actions under Chapter 15.
Carmen is fluent in Spanish.
