Sean P. Ritchie

Counsel

Sean P. Ritchie

Sean Ritchie advises clients on how to protect their intellectual property and assists them in doing so by drafting, filing, prosecuting and enforcing patents and trademarks. He also counsels on the patentability of their IP and on patent infringement issues, and litigates these issues when needed.

Sean’s representation of companies in the biomedical, chemical, life sciences and material sciences industries is informed by a strong combination of related academic work and experiences as in-house counsel and in a commercial laboratory. In addition to holding a master’s degree in bioengineering, Sean previously worked as chief quality officer for an intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring services company, where he focused on health care and medical device regulation.

Sean’s experience in private legal practice ranges from handling office action responses and appeal briefs for various technologies in matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to preparing invalidity opinions and ex parte reexamination requests. He also conducts prior art searches and provides patentability opinions. When a client needs to make an international filing and prosecute their patent outside the United States, he coordinates on their behalf with foreign associates. Sean also has experience with FDA compliance issues for medical devices.
