Saul Ewing’s Trusts & Estates group is a nationwide team featuring more than 40 attorneys across 10 offices. We work with individuals and families on succession planning and wealth transfer, counsel closely-held businesses on governance, growth and restructuring, and litigate and resolve disputes of various kinds encountered in estate and trust administration. Our clients include individuals, private and corporate fiduciaries, families and family offices, closely-held businesses, corporate and family foundations, public charities, trust and estate beneficiaries, trustees, executors, and other fiduciaries. Our areas of focus are:

We strive to build long-lasting relationships with our individual clients by providing counsel during all stages of their lives – from premarital planning and planning for young families, to wealth transfer and business succession planning for more senior generations, to charitable planning and trust and estate administration. We work closely with each client’s professional advisors, including accountants, financial advisors, insurance advisors, and business consultants, to provide legal counsel geared toward creating personalized solutions.

For many of our clients, their business interests are inextricably connected to their personal planning. With practices in the areas of tax, corporate governance, securities, restructuring, real estate, labor and employment, employee benefits, intellectual property, litigation, and other business-related areas, we use a cross-disciplinary team approach to help effectively address our clients’ specific objectives and offer wide-ranging legal resources when needed.

If disputes or the need for judicial intervention arise with regard to estate planning instruments or post-death administration, our nationally recognized team draws on its extensive experience with discreet and creative dispute resolution, including trials, mediation, arbitration, and appeals. Our experience includes a wide range of disputes and complications encountered in estate and trust administration, such as will and trust contests, claims against the estate or trust, claims against fiduciaries, modification and reformation of trusts, heirship proceedings, capacity issues, and civil or other lawsuits filed against or brought on behalf of decedents, fiduciaries, beneficiaries and non-profit organizations. Our team advises our clients to help avoid disputes in the first place, both in the planning process and throughout the administration of the estate. If a dispute arises, we have a depth and breadth of experience to help strategically navigate our clients through all stages of dispute resolution.
