John Marty is a civil litigator whose practice includes legal issues connected with cybersecurity and data privacy and white collar and government litigation. 

John, who is a certified information privacy manager (CIPM), helps clients navigate international, federal and state regulations affecting the operation of data systems in businesses. This includes advice on compliance with laws such as the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). John also assists with the design of comprehensive data privacy programs that include policies on handling and transferring sensitive data and strategies to limit the risk of a breach and the resulting exposure to liability. Should a data breach, cyberattack or other cybersecurity crisis occur, John conducts internal investigations, advises clients on the legal requirements they must fulfill in their incident response, and, when needed, represents them in litigation and regulatory inquires. John also reviews contracts for technology vendors. 

In his white-collar practice, John assists clients facing investigations by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and the U.S. Department of Justice. His experience in this area includes representing entities and individuals in matters related to SEC investigations, FDA compliance, and state environmental laws. John also represents clients before state investigating grand juries, a tool used by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General to examine issues of public policy and corruption.

John also handles a wide variety of general civil litigation, including representations of health care industry clients in commercial contractual disputes and disputes before the Department of Human Services Bureau of Hearing and Appeals. John also handles matters for institutions of higher education, including compliance investigations and sensitive legal matters. 

John's knowledge about education issues is also shaped from his experience as a special education teacher with Teach for America, serving as Illinois State Program Director for Students for Education Reform, and as an intern for Leadership for Educational Equity.

John has been named to The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch list for Commercial Litigation for four consecutive years.
