Federal Prosecution Experience

In his work as a federal prosecutor, Pat was lead or co-lead counsel in the following high-profile matters:

  • In two multi-month trials, convicted four Blackwater security contractors for killing and injuring 31 innocent Iraqi civilians in Baghdad in 2007.
  • Investigated and charged a then-sitting Pennsylvania Congressman and his associates with racketeering conspiracy, involving bribery, mail, wire, and bank fraud.
  • Investigated a Georgia Congressman’s chief of staff for unlawful use of public funds for campaign-related expenses, false statements, and obstruction of justice.
  • Investigated, indicted, and obtained a domestic terrorism guilty plea against a Virginia gunman who attacked the D.C.-based Family Research Council.
  • Investigated, indicted, and obtained guilty pleas against a California company, New York company, and their owners for conspiring with an Iranian national to export computers to Iran in violation of U.S. sanctions.

Pat also supervised the investigations and/or prosecutions of the following high-profile matters:

  • A false statements and obstruction of a Congressional investigation prosecution of a prominent public figure resulting in a guilty verdict.
  • A terrorism prosecution of the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission and nearby CIA post in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya, resulting in a guilty verdict against a co-conspirator.
  • An investigation, prosecution, and resolution through guilty pleas of 19 participants in several international fraud and money-laundering rings.
