Overview

Dennis Ostrovsky assists clients with patent portfolios involving obtaining patents in diverse technologies such as nanomaterials, cellular analysis systems, small molecule drugs, bactericides, abrasives, drug delivery systems, dental compositions, volumetric additive manufacturing (VAM), OLED materials, and polymer compositions. In doing this work, Dennis draws on his doctorate in organic chemistry and his research experience as a principal scientist at a global pharmaceutical company.

Dennis drafts and manages the prosecution of patent applications in both the United States and abroad, including in Europe, China, Korea and Japan. He also drafts appeal briefs and performs due diligence on inventorship disputes.

In addition, he has acted as co-counsel in litigations asserting patent rights, as well as by preparing for trial by evaluating opposing party infringement and invalidity claims. He has assisted in handling witness preparation, deposition summaries, document reviews, and financial analysis connected to damages calculations.

The knowledge he gained through both working in the pharmaceutical industry and in private practice as a patent attorney positions him to advise companies on FDA regulatory matters, IP property acquisition and licensing, and commercialization strategies. During his work as a principal scientist, he led molecular modelling efforts to assist in the discovery of small molecule drugs for metabolic disorders, including cancer and diabetes.

He has familiarity with the challenges associated with drug discovery and development, including pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics and ADME properties. His graduate research included  developing parameters for key chemical function groups now used in commercially available software. He also developed a model to predict the potency of factor Xa inhibitors, which is an important therapeutic target for many pharma and biotech companies.
