Hospital and Health Care Projects

Fred advises hospitals and health care organizations who are planning real estate development projects on agreements involving architectural, general construction and construction management issues. He also helps negotiate the terms of these agreements.

  • A major health care network in the development and financing of its new hospital and a medical office building in suburban Philadelphia.
  • An urban health care system in connection with an expansion of its main campus and related development in its neighborhood footprint.

Education Projects

Fred advises primary and secondary school districts, both public and private and urban and suburban, as well as institutions of higher education, on an array of real estate matters. His work includes counsel on property sales, development of new buildings and large campus projects that transform surrounding neighborhoods.

  • An urban school district in a wide range of matters including the sale of unused buildings and the acquisition of a new, consolidated administrative headquarters.
  • The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in obtaining city ordinances, permits and approvals to convert a block-long section of Cherry Street in Philadelphia into an arts plaza serving as a campus connector for PAFA and a gateway from the city's nearby Convention Center to Philadelphia's museum and cultural district. This high-profile project is a centerpiece of efforts to transform North Broad Street into a cultural boulevard. The firm also negotiated the agreements for the design, construction and installation of the Paint Brush sculpture designed by Claes Oldenburg.
  • PAFA, in connection with its acquisition of the iconic painting The Gross Clinic, as part of the initiative to keep the painting in Philadelphia.

Economic Development and Urban Redevelopment Projects

Fred assists nonprofit organizations, public-private partnerships and quasi-governmental agencies in real estate projects designed to redevelop urban spaces and enhance communities.

  • A regional transportation authority in the development of an urban park along a former rail line in the center of the city.
  • A municipal authority in connection with the construction of a park on land leased from a major urban city government and designed to serve as a gateway to public transportation, a civic gathering space and an enhancement to a city landmark still in use for municipal government operations
