Jennifer’s in-house counsel work included supervising a university’s Legal Department in its defense against:
- A class action brought by students seeking tuition refunds due to COVID-19.
- A lawsuit brought by two terminated athletic coaches who alleged sex, sexual orientation and marital status discrimination. The District Court entered summary judgment in favor of the university.
- A lawsuit brought by a graduate student who was dismissed for academic reasons and alleged national origin discrimination. Summary judgment was granted to the university.
- A Title IX lawsuit that was voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiff, a former student, without a settlement.
Jennifer also defended a university in complaints and charges of discrimination involving federal and state agencies, including:
- Resolving a web accessibility complaint filed the with U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) in the university’s favor.
- Obtaining a no-cause determination from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in a charge of discrimination brought by a faculty member who alleged race and sex discrimination in connection with a decision to deny tenure.
- Working with OCR to obtain a successful resolution to a longstanding Title IX complaint filed by a student.
