Katherine "Katie" Barrett Wiik is a litigator with more than 17 years of experience handling federal and state appellate matters and litigation disputes. Katie has served as lead attorney in dozens of appeals and secured favorable outcomes for clients before the Sixth, Eighth, and Ninth Circuits, the Minnesota Supreme Court, and the Minnesota Court of Appeals. She draws on her appellate experience to monitor trial court proceedings and draft and argue post-trial motions, to ensure that issues are adequately preserved for potential appeals.


On the civil litigation side of her practice, Katie represents clients in disputes involving breach of contract as well as non-compete agreements and other employment issues. She also litigates business torts and cases involving securities fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and other types of financial litigation. Katie has meaningful class-action experience as well, and has contributed to more than a dozen class-action matters in federal trial and appellate courts. In addition to her courtroom work, Katie capitalizes on her strong writing skills to shape and resolve matters by way of strategic motions.

Katie is driven by a passion for equal access to justice, and she is particularly committed to initiatives that support diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession and community. She handles pro bono cases involving transgender rights and reproductive rights, and frequently serves as appellate counsel to non-profits representing survivors of sexual and domestic violence. Before earning her J.D. from Harvard Law School, Katie studied at Queen's University in Belfast, Ireland as a British Marshall Scholar, where she earned a master's degree in comparative ethnic conflict and an L.L.M. in human rights law.
