
Peter Murphy advises cannabis industry clients on regulatory compliance, licensing applications, and corporate transactions to support the launch and growth of their business. His experience includes providing legal guidance to these clients on how evolving cannabis regulations affect their operations, multistate business formation, fundraising, and writing applications and seeking competitive licensing from governments. He also counsels them on governance issues.
Before joining the Firm, Peter was the chief legal officer for a cannabis operator whose operations in cultivation, manufacturing and retail sales span three states, Michigan, Missouri, and Delaware. In this role, he drafted their successful license applications and collaborated with the CEO on legal matters and issues ranging from business strategy and corporate governance to mergers, fundraising, reorganization and other corporate transactions.

This in-house experience positions Peter to offer his legal advice with a real-world understanding of the unique business and regulatory challenges that officers in the C-suite of cannabis companies face.
Beyond this particular role, Peter has served as a corporate officer and board member in multiple cannabis businesses. He also founded an international CBD import subsidiary and worked with U.S. Customs & Border Protection, USDA and state regulators to import the first known compliant CBD products from Colombia and Jamaica.
Before working in-house, Peter was the co-chair and lead application writer for the Regulated Substances Practice of another AM Law 200 firm.
