Overview

Seema Rambaran represents institutions of higher education in litigation matters, and advises them on legal issues affecting their daily operations, including employment disputes and compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. Her litigation experience includes sexual harassment, discrimination, and retaliation claims involving Title VII, Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the New York State Human Rights Law, as well as internal investigations connected with such claims. She also counsels college and university clients in Article 78 proceedings brought by students and former faculty members seeking judicial review of institutional decision-making. In addition, Seema advises higher education clients on contract management, policy development, and employee relations, including hiring and termination practices and severance agreement drafting, as well as internal Title IX compliance matters.

Beyond her work for higher education institutions, Seema advises clients across a variety of industries on federal, state, and local laws related to wage and hour disputes, and claims of discrimination, retaliation, and harassment. This work includes representing management in proceedings before city and state human rights departments, as well as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Seema also works with clients on matters ranging from contract disputes to business dissolutions. She also has experience in responding to regulatory investigations by the Financial Industry Regulation Authority (FINRA) and the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) and defending broker-dealers and registered representatives in FINRA arbitrations.

Before she entered the legal profession, Seema worked with the government of Guyana as it established its Competition and Consumer Protection Agency, a regulatory agency with a similar mandate to that of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
